A New Spring Quilt!

margaret | March 9, 2010

The snow has melted (thank goodness) and the ground is preparing for spring, so as quilters we do the same! I knew spring would be just around the corner so, during those cold and record breaking snow days, I was working on a spring table topper with hot pads to match.

The fun thing about this table topper is you can use spring colors, or fall colors, or even look at the flowers and they represent those snow flakes we were ready to see melt! That makes this table topper an all around pattern. It’s quick and easy to make.

Beads inside the flowers add to the look. The pattern is available at my pattern website: www.patterns2quilt.com.

Quilt for a cowboy (or any horse lover).

margaret | February 26, 2010

This is one of my portrait type patterns I’ve just converted into a downloadable pattern (a print version is still available).

One of my pattern testers said, “Nice pattern and much easier than one would think by looking at the picture!”

This pattern, “Steady” only has four colors and there aren’t any tiny pieces. You don’t have to be a cowboy to hang Steady on your wall!

Check out the pattern at my patterns2quilt website!

Free, easy tape & print baby pantograph

margaret | January 3, 2010

This is another of the free print and tape pantographs that I offer from time to time. The size on the page is 9″ x 4″ and all you need to do is to print the page and match the ends of the lines, tape them together and you’re ready to stitch.

This one is in response to a request for a simple baby stitching design that even a beginner could work up with no problems.

margaret | December 2, 2009

I’ve decided to separate my portrait and pictorial work from my quilt patterns and I’ve just gone live with the new pattern website, www.patterns2quilt.com. It isn’t totally complete, but new websites take time. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to visit.

I also gave a make over to the portrait website, www.chiseledincloth.com. The make over isn’t complete either; as time permits I’ll get it completed.

These websites keep getting in the way of the fun BOM I’m designing. It is a six month, queen size BOM. I’m writing the instructions and soon it will be off to the testers.

Free Christmas Ornaments Patterns!

margaret | November 27, 2009

Remember stringing popcorn and making ornaments for the Christmas tree when you were young? Or, helping your children or grandchildren make ornaments? I’ve thought of those times and designed an easy way to make those colorful round balls that hang from the branches and I wanted to share it with you. I have two different designs, but basically the same directions.

You can print the 8 1/2 x 11 page onto card stock and have the children (or you) color them and add glitter or sequins or whatever will make the sparkle. Or, you can work with them with fabric. I’ve given directions on the page for working with fabric or paper. Just hang a ribbon on them and let them dangle from the tree branches.

Think of how proud they will be by making their own ornaments. Save them from year to year to remember the fun you had putting them together.

If you want the ornament files, just visit my pattern website.

Two quick Christmas quilts!

margaret | November 1, 2009

There’s still time to make these two quick Christmas quilts. They go together very quickly and serve nicely as companion pieces. You could probably get both of them completed in about ten hours or less, so you still have time.

I wanted these quilts to reflect the true meaning of Christmas, so I opened my Bible to the second chapter of Matthew and designed Thee Guiding Light. The light shining on the stable and manger is the focal point of the quilt, so the Wise Men on camels are in shadow in the left block.

Thee Guiding Light is 35.5” x 17.5”.

I thought it would be fun to create a bookshelf or mantle quilt and followed a similar theme, but this time I went to the second chapter of Luke to design Good News (from above). The shepherds are watching over their flock…and you know the rest.

Good News (from above) has two sizes included in the pattern. For the bookshelf size you might use the three block version. The five block version has one blank block on either end and will fit nicely on a mantle. This quilt has an overhang area and a shelf piece.

Good News (from above) is 22.5” x 10” or 37.5” x 10”.

For a closer look, go to my website and click on applique patterns. Then, click on the pattern itself and a larger version will appear.

Need a Christmas quilt border?

margaret | October 7, 2009

Are you looking for a border for your Christmas quilt? Each of these continuous line stitching borders is approximately 4 1/2″ high and 120″ long. All three are on one printed pattern page available on my website.

Top is jingly bells, second is round tree ornaments hanging from a noble fur branch, and third is Santa and his reindeer flying over rooftops and trees.
