Using color, cloth and a computer
Posted By margaret on February 3, 2009

Have you ever thought of using your computer to help with making fabric selections? Do you have one piece of fabric you just love, and don’t quite know which colors will support that fabric? Have you consulted your color wheel and you’re still not quite certain?
The study of color and its nuances is quite interesting; however, knowing that warm colors (reds) advance and cool colors (blues) recede just doesn’t quite help. Primary colors of red, yellow, and blue certainly have complimentary colors on the opposite side of the color wheel, but that just doesn’t quite help.
You’re looking to develop a color scheme for the quilt. To help with “scheming”, why not put your computer to work for you. I put together a short video explaining how to use your computer to access a free online color schemer. This online tool is terrific! Watch the video below.
The numbers below the blocks of color indicate both RGB and Hex codes. Under the color blocks the first set of colors are the RGB colors, red, green, and blue. Hexadecimal code for RGB is represented by the second set of numbers. While you might not use the color codes, you may enjoy reading of their meaning.
I think you’ll find this color schemer an excellent tool to inspire creativity and develop an exciting color sense. Let me know if you think it will help with selecting colors.
