Back roads of Texas

| September 11, 2011

Keeping off the interstate and traveling the back roads of Texas reveals such fun things!

This is the best looking gate around!

According to Wikipedia, the parts of a spur include:

  • The yoke, branch, or heel band, which wraps around the heel of the boot.
  • The shank or neck, which extends from the back of the heel band and is the area that usually touches the horse
  • The rowel, seen on some spurs, a small revolving wheel or disk with radiating points at the end attached to the shank.
The rowel (wheel on the end) actually was turning!
We need this for our Texas ranch!!
We found it in Hico, Texas

Calling all quilters…please help!

| September 9, 2011

If you’ve seen the news lately you know how the wildfires in Texas have taken over the state. The Bastrop fire is particularly an issue, and so far over 1400 homes and two lives have been lost…just since Sunday!

If you have any extra supplies, fabrics, scissors, notion of any kind or anything to help your fellow quilter, now is the time to contact an area quilt guild to help.

Bastrop is a little over thirty miles southeast of Austin. This morning I heard there were over 120 wildfires active in the state.

Please consider helping your fellow quilters.

Below are just four guilds in the area of Bastrop for you to contact:

Austin Area Quilt Guild:

Chisholm Trail Quilt Guild (Georgetown)

Friendship Quilt Guild (Brenham)

Brazos Bluebonnet Quilt Guild (Bryan)

Of course there are many guilds in the Houston area and throughout the state. Please contact one to help.

We have all been hit very hard this summer with record heat and drought conditions.
