Quilter’s App for IPhone

| November 30, 2010

I was visiting Lindsay’s blog www.mequilting.com the other day and she posted this great IPhone app from Robert Kaufman Fabrics!

I immediately downloaded the app for my IPhone. If you haven’t seen it yet, here are a couple of screen shots from my phone:

Thanks for your post Lindsay!

Free Christmas tree decorations for the children, again this year!

| November 26, 2010

With Thanksgiving behind us and Christmas on the way I’ve drawn up another fun homemade decoration to hang from the tree. Last year had the snowflake and the bulb and this year is the gift wrapped package wishing Jesus a Happy Birthday.

You can print the 8 1/2″ x 11″ page onto card stock and have the children (or you) color them and add glitter or sequins or whatever will make the sparkle. Or, you can work with them with fabric. I’ve given directions on the page for working with fabric or paper. Just hang a ribbon on them and let them dangle from the tree branches.

This time I have 3 sizes on the page. Of course, the decorations from last year are still on my patterns website and this new one has been added.

Schoolhouse block puzzle, can you put it together?

| November 18, 2010

I was looking through some of my animation files and ran across this little puzzle I made. Try your hand at putting this schoolhouse block together. Just drag the lid to the left and pick up a puzzle piece and place it on the background. Have fun! How did you do?

This video is just for fun! Be sure to watch the video below this one! It is inspirational and very timely this time of the year!

Counting…

| November 6, 2010

Isn’t it amazing to watch a young child learn language? They are so very young and must pick up on not only how to pronounce a word, but the meaning as well. It is necessary to know how to use it properly, but the most interesting to me is the fact they must learn a concept.

A few years ago I played the computer game, Myst. The game opens on an island and you have no idea what you are to do, where to go, or even how to play. There were sounds and background music, but other than that you were in this game and had to figure everything out yourself. When I see a two year old learning a language and all of its nuances, it reminds me of how inept I felt first stepping into Myst.

Children’s shows certainly help with the language skills of young children, the same for learning colors, or numbers, or counting. Sesame Street even has a guy called, The Count. He counts everything! Repetition is the key to learning, and The Count certainly does his part.

It must work because we continue to count as we age. Of course, some of us stop counting birthdays, but basic counting goes on and on. We count the number of days until a big event, or we count how many of something we own, or wish we owned, or … you get the picture.

As we approach what is often referred to as the “holiday season” we tend to count more. How many people to cook for, how many to buy for, how many will attend, how many, how many?

I hope you will take a couple of moments to view our “counting” gift to you.
