Are you a quilt pattern tester?

margaret | July 31, 2009

Are you interested in becoming a quilt tester? If you love to create quilts and enjoy being the first one to try out new patterns, then quilt testing might be just the thing you’re looking for to expand your talents.

I like to design appliqué patterns that are easy to complete, so if you’ve never tried appliqué this might be an opportunity for you to learn to appliqué and make a cool quilt, all in one.

Most of my quilts are wall quilts because I enjoy completing one and moving on to another one, it seems I can do that much more quickly with smaller quilts.

If you are interested in becoming a quilt tester you might look over some of my patterns to see if my style matches your idea of fun quilts to hang in your home or give to others.

This link is to my quilt patterns, www.chiseledincloth.com/quiltpatterns.htm. I have more designs almost ready for testing, so if this sounds like fun, please post a comment and I’ll email you with more details.

Another free continuous line stitching pattern!

margaret | July 20, 2009

Here is another of my continuous line stitching blocks that will fit inside a six-inch block.

This pattern could be used on a longarm machine, sewing machine, or for hand quilting.

This continuous stitching block measures 5.5” x 5.5” just the size to fit into a 6”x 6” block. I have included centering lines to help with positioning.

For size 8.25” x 8.25”, print and enlarge it at 150%, or size 3.5” x 3.5”, print and reduce it at 63%.

How I was introduced to quilting…

margaret | July 11, 2009

Recently Michele at QuiltingGallery.com was kind enough to allow me to be a guest blogger and since I’ve often been asked how I got into quilting I thought that might be a good subject. Below is the article. Visit all the guest bloggers on Quilting Gallery for fun and interesting info.

An epiphany happened to me about twenty years ago. There was a void in my life and I didn’t even know it was happening.

I think an inspiration is like a flash of light in your psyche just waiting for action, and I needed one.

On the wall in a fabric store hung a stunning Oregon Trail Jacket. I bought the pattern and soon realized, even though I had no quilting experience, it had to be very similar to making a quilt. There was piecing, thin batting, matching seams and so on. Whatever it was called, I was hooked. (more…)

Celebrate July 4 with your family, friends, & a patriotic quilt!

margaret | July 1, 2009

Happy Independence Day! As we pause on this day to celebrate our independence and freedom it is also a day of reflection and remembrances of those that have given their lives for those very freedoms.

When they penned those words that created our nation so long ago, the founding fathers had differences of opinions but came together to write documents that have withstood hundreds of years of scrutiny. If you have not seen the HBO special John Adams, I highly recommend you rent the DVD. It was a wonderful series about the founding fathers and the first fifty years of our country that you and your children would really enjoy. It was both entertaining and enlightening.

Just as the founding fathers realized freedom would not come without sacrifice and pain, our own loved ones have given their very lives for our freedoms. For them and their service we are grateful.

I love creating patriotic quilts and Freedom is not Free is my newest quilt, just in time for July 4th! I hope you enjoy the quilt, the day, and all the freedoms it encompasses.

This quilt is 19.5” x 13.5” and goes together very quickly. The Statue of Liberty crown has seven spikes and seven stars to represent the seven continents and seas, the stars and stripes represent our flag, and the slogan, Freedom is not Free should be our constant reminder, lest we forget…
