You might enjoy this continuous line-stitching pattern that will fit inside a six-inch block. This pattern is named, Hearts ’n Stars and is from my Americana collection of 15 patriotic themed continuous line-stitching patterns.

Hearts ’n Stars, as well as all 15 of the patterns in the collection, are ideal for quilters using a sewing machine for quilting. Of course, this pattern could certainly be used on a longarm machine or for hand quilting.

This continuous stitching line block measures 5.5” x 5.5” just the size to fit into a 6”x 6” block. I have included centering lines to help with positioning. (more…)

150x150rubygraphic-copyHave you heard about Ruby the new magazine for women? It got me to thinking of early magazines for women and how the new and the old compared to one another. Well, the new one hasn’t made the debut quite yet (it’s premiere issue is due out July 1) but I do know a little of its contents.

According to Wikipedia, magazines for women began as early as 1827! I had no idea. Sarah Hale, the author of Mary Had a Little Lamb, was the first woman editor of one such magazine from 1837 until 1877. During that time frame the subscribers jumped from 10,000 to over 150,000. The magazine included articles by influential authors such as Edgar Alan Poe, illustrations, patterns, and poetry. They avoided political and controversial topics, but stuck to information to help the average woman. Hmmm…that sounds very much like the new ezine, Ruby. (more…)

Remember when that special someone gave you a single red rose?rosebudclass
Just as color is important to a quilt, colors of roses have meanings as well.

The white rose is the bridal rose and represents love stronger than death.

The red rose is the lover’s rose; it is the ultimate symbol of romantic love. A single red rose says I love you.

The yellow rose is given as a sign of friendship and has special meaning in Texas.

The pink rose is the rose of grace and elegance. The rose of sweet thoughts and gentility is a nice way to say thank you.

What would you like to say to that special someone with your rosebud quilt? Anyone would be happy to receive this single rose, so make two and keep one for yourself!

Pick your color and join me in the three-week class to learn to “appliquilt” and make this lovely rose. At 16.75″ x 33″ it is just the perfect size for your wall. (more…)
